Taheyya Karioka, Samya Gamal started her performing career
as dancer in Badiaa Massabni's troupe. Her love story with
Farid Al Atrash, the famous royal prince of the Lebanese druz
who went to Egypt and became one of the most famous singing
composer and actor led to an artistic collaboration between
the two of them that was never matched.
Farid composed many of Samya's dance music as
well as co-starred in almost all the films in which she appeared.
Samya Gamal's classical ballett schooling was
very apparent in her style of dancing as well as the Hollywood
influence that she brought into the Egyptian dance. She also
appeared in films that were made in Hollywood.
Like Taheyya Karioka, it is an honour and a pleasure
to know that at the time of making this volume of "The
Stars of Egypt" Lady Samya Gamal is still alive but regretfully
has retired from the dance world, after a comeback of a year
and a half that was preceded by a previous fifteen years of
retirement. She has left us this valuable wealth of dance
performances that we will always treasure.
