Naima
was born in Egypt to the Akef family, a most renowned circus
family specialised in acrobatic stunts as well as horse training.
Her father observed her love for music, singing and dancing
since she was a child and encouraged her to follow a solo
career in which her talent was outstanding.
Naima was married to the great film director Hassan
Fawzy and with this powerful combination she reached the top
and was the very first Egyptian all-around actress, dancer,
and singer.
Naima's style was the most interpretative of the
true emotional musical context. Her soulful expression presented
an opportunity to musical cross-culturalization in a fusical
melting pot that enhanced the performance as well as increased
the aesthetic input.
Regretfully, Naima passed away in the early 60's,
after a long and failed struggle against cancer, but her love
for the Egyptian dance and her contribution to it will always
keep her alive in our hearts.
