Variety is always a good thing, especially in Rhythm. One rhythm can teach you many things about other rhythms and I know that almost all rhythms are connected in one way or another.
I think that if you continue to concentrate on the Middle Eastern Rhythms, things will be that much more attainable for you in the workshop in August, but also, learning other rhythms will open your mind and heart, not to mentiond your hands into the various other ways to approach playing your instruments.
