Well Done on starting to learn the rhythms. This is great.

The masmoudi is played over 8 counts. Each count of the metronome would act as one of those 8 counts.

Now, over the same speed of the metronome, the Maqsoum would be played over 4 counts only.

If I was to sing them to you... the Maqsoum would sound like this:

DonDom TekTak DomTek TakRaka

The Masmoudi would sound like this:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Dom Dom raTa Tata Dom raTa Tat raTa

Not to mention that the speed and attack on the Masoudi gives it that gallant feeling and advancing flavour. While the Maqsoum makes you want to bounce on the spot and do all sort of sensual, petite movements.
