Is anybody familiar with the ancient influences in modern Egyptian muci that might stem from an ancient source? I wonder if the incantation music done by the Saidi people from Beni Suef to Aswan have any connection to what music might have sounded like in antiquity. Somebody should write a book about these influces or document them before many die out.
I have heard Shaabi had it's origins in poor Fellahin moving into Cairo to find work during the 50's-60's. I am very curious about the origin.
