Since early childhood Hossam Ramzy has immersed himself in the magnificent sounds of Egypt and Arabia. His passion for rhythm and music has made him the foremost percussionist, arranger, composer and producer of Arabian music in the world. Film directors, pop stars, rock legends and world music performers alike have all used his orchestrations and production.
Rock legend, Robert Plant, personally thanks Hossam for his diligence and creativity with his Egyptian Ensemble on the DVD No Quarter Unledded. Hossam has worked on no less than eleven Peter Gabriel albums. His cinematic credits include “Wings of a Dove”, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, “The Last Temptation of Christ”, “The Saint”, “Stargate”, “The Governess”, “Meenaxi, The Tale of Three Cities”, “Goodbye Lenin” and “Stealing Beauty”.
Whether you are aware of it or not, you have heard Hossam’s playing with an amazing array of diverse musical legends that includes Jay-Z, The Afro-Celt Sound System, Bond, Sting, Luciano Pavarotti, Chick Corea, The Gypsy Kings and leading Algerian musicians Rachid Taha, Cheb Khaled and Faudel.
Hossam’s unique sound has made him the first point of contact for anyone trying to create the sounds of Arabia with credibility and good taste. His work is vibrant, passionate and authentic. Sony Music commissioned a set of string arrangements for an album by Ricky Martin, which Hossam recorded in Cairo with his Ensemble. The Hossam Ramzy Ensemble has a core membership of six musicians but can extend to a 30-piece Egyptian String Orchestra.
